Handloomed Cotton Ikat

Beautiful Ikat woven cotton's imported from India.  We are working directly with a family based in Hyderabad to create handloomed designs with their small team of skilled artisans.

All of our designs are limited, often only 20-25m per design.  We can re-order designs as they sell through, however due to the manual dyeing processes our partner uses, we cannot guarantee an accurate colour match with the following batch.

If something speaks to you, please make it yours + ensure you have enough fabric for your selected project.

Sewing Notions

A small collection of Schmetz needles, KATM woven labels, A+R buttons, LDH Scissors and Gütermann thread to complete your handcrafted garments.

A+R Buttons will join the line up in late DEC2020!  If you're looking for the perfect replica for traditional horn buttons for your next chore jacket or linen dress, we've got you covered with our range of neutral resin buttons.

Schmetz are our needles of choice.  They have been the leading manufacturer of quality sewing machine needles since 1851.  They offer uncompromised quality, with a needle for every project.  View the colour coding system here

Sohmo produces some of the best pins we've had the pleasure of working with.  Owned + operated by Melbourne local Sonya Morris, Sohmo offers quality pins + clips to suit every sewing project. The curved basting pins are a quilters dream and the entomology pins are wonderful for use with our silks!

Kylie and the Machine create some super fun and functional woven labels for all of your handmades.  Be it for your next Wiksten Haori or quilt for your sisters new babe, we have the label for you!

We stock Gütermann polyester threads.  We appreciate that Gütermann threads are OKEO-TEX standard 100 certified and also don't contain any substances flagged by REACH.  They have been verified by ETI (Ethical Trading Initiative) that they meet the SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) requirements in terms of operating in a socially responsible fashion, considering the safety and human rights of workers, banning child labour, and working against discrimination within the work place.  They are also a member of ZDHC initiative, moving towards zero discharge of hazardous chemicals for their manufacturing processes.

Silk Noil

Silk noil is made from the the short fibres that are left over after combing and spinning the long silk threads from the silk worm cocoons.  Traditionally a waste product from the silk manufacturing process, these short fibres are what give silk noil it's distinctive surface texture.  This lovely texture makes it appear like is would be quite crisp, but it actually has a lovely drape.

Our silk noil is lightweight, approximately 150gsm, but it's structure provides good opacity.  This drape + opacity lend themselves beautifully to shell tops, tanks, dresses, jumpsuits, blouses, flowing skirts, wide leg relaxed fit pants, just about anything you would traditionally craft with a woven fabric.  It handles beautifully like a cotton to cut + sew.  It has an understated luxury to it with its low lustre, yet high colour vibrancy.

Dry cleaning is often recommended to help retain this colour vibrancy, however silk noil can be gently hand washed.  After trial and error with my own garments, I do suggest a gentle hand wash using a small amount of delicate care product and then hang to dry in the shade for best results.

TENCEL™ Modal jersey

Our collection of TENCEL™ Modal jerseys are delightfully soft against the skin and provide incredible drape for your next knit sewing project.  Any of these options would make a wonderful choice for underwear, fitted layers, relaxed fit layers or dresses.

We suggest sizing down for any garments that require negative ease as these lovely knits offer great stretch.

TENCEL™ Modal jersey is also a great knit for relaxed fit / positive ease garments.

Please feel free to order a swatch card to check the stretch, recovery and opacity is suitable for your project.
